EECI2009 Video Available
Make sure you keep an eye on the EECI2009 Video Page as the conference organizers continue to add videos from the main talks. The video of my “Quoting and Planning ExpressionEngine Projects” just became available, with the supporting slides available on Flickr. I’ve also posted it to the Free Tutorials section here on Train-ee.
EE is a Geyser
It’s been slightly more than a day since I returned from the European The ExpressionEngine and CodeIgniter Conference held last week in Leiden, Netherlands. I’ve just about recovered from jet lag so wanted to post a summary of the experience while it was all (somewhat) fresh in my head and before cracks start appearing in the dam of on-hold projects and client demands.
Speaking at the EE/CI Conference
I’d be remiss if I didn’t announce that I’ll be leaving tomorrow for the first-ever ExpressionEngine/CodeIgniter Conference to be held in Leiden, The Netherlands later this week. I’ll be giving a presentation titled “Quoting and Planning EE Sites” wherein I’ll try to share what I’ve learned about the topic from 5 years of client work through Boyink Interactive.
I’m excited that EE and CI are popular enough to get their own conference, and also that I’m getting to travel from Holland (MI, USA) to Holland (Netherlands) for my first trip overseas. I’m looking forward to seeing how the “real” Dutch culture compares to our version of it here in the states. After the conference ends I’ll have a couple of days to explore the country, with a visit to the Frisian Islands planned and a couple of nights stay in this cool hotel in the Groningen area.
If you are attending the conference make sure to say hi!
Classroom Training Leads to Collaboration
Deb Pang-Davis of CococelloWeb and Print Design and John Knotts of Code72 met in the recent Train-ee Class in Portland, OR. That classroom learning experience led to a collaborative ExpressionEngine build effort that just launched as a new site for wedding photographer KevinWeinstein.
I often get asked about creating some sort of online version of the 4-day EE class - and it’s stuff like this that really makes me reluctant to do so. The folks that show up for the class always bring so much value to the curriculum that I’ve prepared, and when’s the last time you ended up collaborating with someone else that listened to the same webinar you did?
Congrats to Deb and John on the launch!
...And for those of you waffling about whether to sign up for the upcoming Train-ee class what are you waiting for? You never know if you might end up sitting next to a future partner or client…
Garmin Hires Train-ee
I’m very happy to announce that Garmin - a global leader in the GPS navigation, communication and sonar device industry - has hired Train-ee to lead ExpressionEngine training for its staff.
I’ll be spending a week of August at Garmin’s headquarters in Olathe, Kansas teaching a mixed team of IT, Marketing and Communication folks the essentials for developing websites using EE.
My greatest fear at this point is getting lost trying to find the conference room…;)
